Eight win major scholarships at Metro Erie Scholarship Banquet

Eight recently graduated seniors from Erie City & County high schools were awarded major scholarships totaling more than $10,000 during the Metro Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Student-Athlete Scholarship Dinner on Wednesday evening at the Zem Zem Shrine Club.

The recipients of this year’s major awards include the following:

Ron Costello Memorial Scholarships – Alexander Miklinski, Mercyhurst Prep (golf, basketball, tennis) and Jamison Cook, Fairview (basketball, cross country, tennis).

Erie Otters Brad Boyes Scholarship – John R. Wheeler, Northwestern (wrestling).

T.J. Guthleben Scholarship Awards – Lindsay F. Dougherty, Erie High (tennis) and Jordan Klick, Seneca (volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross country).

Marsha Marsh Community Service Awards – Kelly Fessler, Villa Maria (cross country, swimming and track & field) and Megan Koma, Girard (soccer and swimming).

Erie County Football Officials Association Scholarship – Chris Mohra, Fairview

A total of 28 male and female senior student/athletes from each of the Erie City and County high schools were also awarded $10,000 in scholarship money from the Metro Erie Chapter, the Vorsheck Family Foundation, and eight Erie-area Social Clubs (Cascade Park Club, Club Slovak National, Knights of St. John, Society of Holy Trinity, South Erie Turners, Sunflower Club, Union City VFW, and the Wesleyville American Legion).
