About Len Ekimoff

An all-city performer in basketball, football and baseball in 1946 at Tech Memorial, Len also landed a berth on the all-state football team. A spectacular career at the University of South Carolina followed, in which Ekimoff was named an All-Southern Conference football center in 1948. He played football for four seasons, and also made the starting five on the Gamecocks’ basketball squad in 1946 thru 1949. Ekimoff later played minor league football and began a long tenure with Glenwood League baseball before becoming city recreation director in 1968 –  a position he held for 21 and a half years. Always civic minded, Ekimoff served as president of the Boys Club from 1981-84, and has since received its man and youth award, as well as bronze keystone and service bar for 20 years service, serves on the Ainsworth Commission as Treasurer, and is a Times Old Newsy. Len has been married to Christine Hyziewicz for 42 years, is the father of four – Catherine Desmarais, David, Pam Sprague, Christine Porada and proud grand-father of Mark & Mike Desmarais, Greg, Christopher and Bethany Ekimoff and Katie, Jeff and Abby Porada.
