STATEMENT FROM THE METRO ERIE CHAPTER PA SPORTS HALL OF FAME EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

April 7, 2020 – 7:30pm

With news of the pandemic becoming more sobering every day, it is with profound regret that we have decided to cancel/postpone the 2020 Student-Athlete and Hall of Fame dinners until June 2021 at the Shrine Club. These decisions were made not because the executive committee “wants” to. They were made because the executive committee feels it “has” to.

The 2020 Metro Erie Chapter inductees, being revealed tonight, will be formally recognized next June.

We are living in very challenging times. All walks of life have been affected. We have listened to the most reputable medical authorities at the national, state, and local levels. No one has been able to say, with any degree of certainty, when this virus will subside. Schools, businesses and churches across the commonwealth – and the nation – have been closed indefinitely.

The executive committee believes that it owes it to our chapter members, now 265 strong, and to the 2020 inductees, their families and friends – some of whom may have to travel from outside the county or state to participate in a June 2020 celebration – to act as responsibly and prudently as we can.

We thank you for your understanding. God willing, we’ll return in 2021 with two terrific dinners.

But, for now, let’s all adhere to the governor’s and county executive’s recommendations: practice social distancing, stay calm, stay safe and, when possible, stay at home. We are all in this together.
